Going into the Camino, I thought that my 2nd rest & explore days in each of the bigger cities would be less about 'rest', and more about 'explore'; but it's actually turned out to be quite the opposite. More than anything, I've found it the best time to rest up, update my blog posts, and do very little exploring, to keep me fresh for the next phase of my journey. So here goes a pretty boring update on my 2nd rest & explore day in Burgos....
In the morning, I walked about 1 1/2 miles to what I thought was going to be an outdoor food market. It actually was a food market, but it turned out to be indoors, and set up much like a typical supermarket. No worries, it served its purpose. I bought a variety of things to bring back to my room for a late breakfast/early lunch while I updated my blog.
In the early afternoon, I took a tour of the Museum of Evolution, which is based here in Burgos as the result of the oldest living human remains being found in the nearby village of Atapuerca, which I passed through per a previous post. I used the English speaking hand-held tour guide with headphones, and learned about the evolution of life on earth starting 35 million years ago through Homo Sapiens about 10,000 years ago, and everything in between. Fascinating stuff!
Then it was back to my hotel for a little rest, more updating of my blog, and planning out my next few day's journey along the Camino, before heading to the center square near the Cathedral for a quick dinner.
Pics from the day......
Heading along the river walk on my way to the 'outdoor; market.
A little hot cup of coffee and donut for my walk. I love how the baristas take such great care in pouring the milk.
I ended up passing the stadium for the Burgos Futbol Club, who currently play in the Spanish 2nd division. Their nickname is the Burgaleses, "sons of the cold".
Love these trees that line the streets of Burgos. I saw the same in the suburbs of Pamplona.
My lunch from the market while I updated my blog.
The Museum of Human Evolution.
One of our early ancestors.
Lucy (in the sky with diamonds). I always love a good Beatles reference.
Dinner and a few last sights before heading off to bed.
So long Burgos! It's been fun, but time for bed to be ready for the next phase of my journey, through the Meseta to the city of Leon.
Good luck with your CPAP! I hope that the Camino continues to provide for you, and you are able to get a good nights sleep each night.
May you continue to be blessed with good health and meeting other fun and interesting pilgrims.
I notice you're layered up pretty good. Mild temps so far?
